The Bayou Classic Charcoal Starter has spark blocking side vents to help with lighting your charcoal.  The air intake holes on the side of the Bayou Classic Charcoal Starter are shielded to prevent sparks and ash from shooting out.  There is no need for using charcoal lighter fluid!
